Job Description: Mechanical Test Engineering Technician

QUALA is seeking a Mechanical Test Engineering Technician to join our team that supports prototyping and development of consumer electronics hardware. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art prototyping lab that is based in Redmond, WA.

Summary:

The Mechanical Test Engineering Technician is a hands-on role supporting the development, testing and documentation of mechanical components, prototypes and assemblies. The engineer technician creates CAD models and drawings, develops test setups and procedures, collects reliable data and maintains clear technical records.

Working under engineering direction, this role converts agreed requirements into fixtures, prepared samples, repeatable tests and organized results. The engineer technician contributes practical ideas, independently executes defined work and seeks review for changes outside the approved scope.

Key Responsibilities

• CAD and fixtures: Create and revise 3D models, 2D drawings and fixture designs; maintain revisions and prepare fabrication or assembly documentation.
• Test development: Refine methods, fixtures and procedures; build trial setups, prepare samples and verify alignment, clamping and other setup details.
• Test execution: Perform approved mechanical tests—including tension, compression, bending, shear, peel, friction and stiffness—on materials, components and assemblies.
• Equipment and data: Configure test equipment, sensors and data-acquisition tools; verify calibration and measurement ranges, troubleshooting setups, maintain traceability and summarize results.
• Documentation and support: Maintain instructions, setup records, SOPs, drawings and reports; support prototype assembly and troubleshooting, communicate blockers and escalate unsafe or unexpected conditions.

Required Qualifications

• Education, technical training or equivalent practical experience in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, mechanical testing or a related field.
• Practical CAD experience creating or modifying mechanical models and drawings and interpreting dimensions, tolerances and assembly details.
• Hands-on experience preparing fixtures and samples and executing mechanical tests in a laboratory, product-development or prototyping environment.
• Working knowledge of force, displacement, stiffness and material behavior, with the ability to recognize setup or data-quality issues.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate technical data, procedures, records, plots and summaries; manage defined assignments independently; and follow safe equipment and sample-handling practices.
• Preferred: Mechanical test systems or hardware-testing experience; CREO/Windchill, statistics and data automation are beneficial.
